Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit (CTITC)
Supports Canadian businesses investing in clean energy projects.
Incentive – 30% refundable tax credit
Eligibility – Taxable entities investing in eligible clean technologies
Type of project – Commercial and industrial solar PV systems
Clean Economy Investment Tax Credit (CE ITC)
Supports Canadian businesses investing in clean energy projects. A tax credit designed to accelerate Canada’s transition to a low-emissions economy by encouraging investment in clean electricity generation and storage infrastructure.
Incentive – Refundable tax credit of up to 15% for capital costs associated with eligible clean electricity projects
Eligibility – Non-taxable entities such as municipalities, Crown corporations, Indigenous communities and other public sector bodies
Type of project – Clean electricity generation (e.g., solar PV), storage, transmission infrastructure and grid modernization
Capital Cost Allowance (CCA)
Helps businesses reduce taxable income by accelerating the depreciation of renewable energy equipment.
Incentive – Accelerated depreciation of clean energy equipment
Eligibility – Businesses investing in solar or other renewable technologies
Type of project – Solar PV, wind, geothermal equipment
Canadian Renewable and Conservation Expenses (CRCE)
Enables full deduction of certain expenses related to clean energy development in the year incurred.
Incentive – 100% deduction for eligible renewable energy project expenses
Eligibility – Businesses developing qualifying renewable energy systems
Type of project – Feasibility studies and installation costs for solar PV systems
PROVINCIAL & TERRITORIAL INCENTIVES
Alberta
Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)
CEIP is Alberta’s version of PACE financing, allowing property owners to fund upgrades through their property taxes.
Incentive – 100% upfront financing repaid through property taxes
Eligibility – Homeowners and commercial property owners in participating municipalities
Type of project – Solar PV, HVAC systems, insulation, energy storage
British Columbia
PST Exemption for Renewable Energy Equipment
To support the adoption of clean energy, British Columbia waives the provincial sales tax (PST) on eligible renewable energy systems and components.
Incentive – 7% PST exemption on qualifying equipment
Eligibility – BC residents and businesses purchasing eligible renewable energy products
Type of project – Solar PV, solar thermal, wind, micro-hydro, biomass, and geothermal systems
Manitoba
Efficiency Manitoba Solar Rebate
This rebate supports the adoption of solar photovoltaic systems for both residential and commercial customers across the province.
Incentive – $0.50 per DC watt installed. Maximum of $5,000 for homes. No upper limit for businesses
Eligibility – Homeowners and businesses must use a registered Efficiency Manitoba contractor
Type of project – Grid-tied solar PV systems
Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit (Solar Thermal)
This tax credit helps reduce the upfront cost of installing solar water or air heating systems.
Incentive – 10% refundable provincial tax credit on capital costs, including installation and taxes
Eligibility – Individuals and businesses installing eligible solar thermal systems
Type of project – Solar water heating or solar air heating
Northwest Territories
Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA)
This program supports off-grid and diesel-dependent communities in the Northwest Territories by offering rebates on renewable energy systems, including solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Funding is available for residents, businesses, Indigenous governments, and non-profits.
Incentive – Up to $20,000 for residents; up to $50,000 for organizations, based on the lower of 50% of eligible costs or $4/Watt for solar systems
Eligibility – Off-grid buildings or communities not powered by hydroelectricity; all projects must meet technical and permitting standards
Type of project – Solar PV, solar thermal (air/water), wind, wood pellet systems, and micro-hydro (non-grid-tied)
Nova Scotia
SolarHomes Program
Nova Scotia helps homeowners go solar with direct rebates.
Incentive – $0.30 per watt (up to $3,000)
Eligibility – Homeowners in Nova Scotia using approved installers
Type of project – Residential solar PV systems
Community Solar Program
Enables communities to establish solar gardens and offer electricity subscriptions to Nova Scotia Power customers. It provides a pathway for renters, condo dwellers, and those without suitable rooftops to benefit from clean solar energy.
Incentive – Participants receive a fixed $0.02/kWh credit on their Nova Scotia Power bill based on their subscribed share of the garden’s output
Eligibility – Nova Scotia Power customers not already enrolled in net metering or other solar programs
Type of project– Off-site community solar gardens (0.5 MW to 10 MW) built and operated by eligible community organizations
Nunavut
Renewable Energy Homeowner Grant Program
Provides financial assistance to homeowners who want to install a solar energy system on their primary residence. Offered by the Nunavut Housing Corporation in partnership with the Climate Change Secretariat, the program aims to reduce community grid loads and greenhouse gas emissions.
Incentive – Up to 50% of total eligible project costs, to a maximum of $30,000 (one-time, non-repayable grant)
Eligibility – Nunavut residents who own and occupy a home as their principal residence, are approved for QEC’s Net Metering Program and install systems through certified professionals
Type of project – CSA-certified solar PV systems (including associated electrical equipment and installation by a certified electrician)
Renewable Energy Cabin Grant Program (REC Grant)
Provides a one-time grant to help cabin owners in Nunavut install renewable energy systems such as solar or wind. The grant covers both equipment and shipping costs to support traditional land use and off-grid living.
Incentive – Up to $5,000 (one-time, non-repayable grant) per cabin
Eligibility – Nunavut residents aged 19+ who own a remote-use cabin (not a primary residence); equipment must be CSA-certified
Type of project – Solar PV, wind systems, and supporting battery systems for off-grid cabins
Ontario
Home Renovation Savings Program
A province-wide program offering rebates to help homeowners offset the cost of major energy-efficient upgrades, including solar installations and battery storage systems.
Incentive – Rebates cover up to 30% of project costs; up to $5,000 for rooftop solar and an additional $5,000 for battery storage
Eligibility – Ontario homeowners who complete eligible retrofits through approved contractors
Type of project – Rooftop solar PV systems, battery energy storage systems, and other efficiency upgrades
Prince Edward Island
Solar Electric Rebate Program
A popular PEI program that offers solar power incentives for residential and commercial installs.
Incentive – $1/Watt for residential (up to $10,000), $0.35/Watt for commercial
Eligibility – PEI homeowners and businesses using approved installers
Type of project – Solar PV systems
Saskatchewan
Home Renovation Tax Credit
A personal income tax credit allowing Saskatchewan homeowners to claim a portion of eligible renovation expenses, including solar system installations, when enhancing home energy efficiency.
Incentive – 10.5% non-refundable tax credit on eligible expenses up to $20,000, for a maximum credit of $2,100
Eligibility – Saskatchewan residents who own and occupy the home.
Type of project – Home upgrades including energy-efficient retrofits; solar PV may be eligible if part of broader renovation work
Yukon
Good Energy Renewable Energy Rebate
Yukoners can claim this rebate for installing clean energy generation systems.
Incentive – $800/kW, up to $5,000/year per system
Eligibility – Yukon residents installing solar, wind, or other renewables

Toronto – Home Energy Loan Program (HELP)
Toronto’s HELP program offers low-interest loans for energy-efficient home upgrades, making it easier for homeowners to invest in solar energy systems.
Incentive – Loans up to $125,000
Eligibility – Residential property owners in Toronto
Type of Project – Solar PV, energy storage, insulation, HVAC upgrades
Ottawa – Better Homes Loan Program
This program provides financing for deep energy retrofits, including solar panel installations, through a property tax repayment model.
Incentive – Up to $125,000 or 10% of assessed property value
Eligibility – Homeowners in Ottawa

Guelph – Greener Homes Program
Guelph offers interest-free loans and grants to help homeowners improve energy efficiency and adopt solar technologies.
Incentive – Loans up to $50,000; grants up to $15,000 for low-income households

Edmonton – Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)
Offers Edmonton homeowners and building owners a way to finance energy-efficient upgrades and solar installations through property tax repayment. The program encourages energy retrofits by making upfront costs more accessible.
Incentive – Up to $50,000 in financing for residential and multi-unit residential buildings; up to $1 million for commercial properties
Eligibility – Property owners in Edmonton completing eligible retrofits; financing is attached to the property, not the individual
Type of Project – Solar PV systems, insulation, windows, air sealing, heat pumps, and other qualifying energy upgrades
Banff, Canmore and Medicine Hat
These municipalities offer their local rebates to support the installation of rooftop solar systems.
Incentive – Rebate amounts vary by municipality
Eligibility – Residents and small businesses in Banff, Canmore, and Medicine Hat
Type of project – Residential and small commercial solar PV systems
Nanaimo & Lantzville – RDN Renewable Energy Program
This regional rebate helps homeowners install solar or other renewable energy systems on their properties.
Incentive – Rebate amounts vary
Eligibility – Residents of the Regional District of Nanaimo and Lantzville
Type of Project – Solar PV, solar thermal, wind, and geothermal energy systems
Vancouver – Heritage Energy Retrofit Grant
This grant supports upgrades to heritage homes to improve energy efficiency, potentially including solar as part of the retrofit.
Incentive – Up to $14,000
Eligibility – Homes built before 1940 or listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register

UTILITY-BASED INCENTIVES
New Brunswick Power Total Home Energy Savings Program
Rewards energy upgrades based on improvement to a home’s overall efficiency.
Incentive – Tiered rebates (based on performance and upgrades)
Eligibility – NB homeowners (size and height conditions) completing energy evaluations and upgrades
Type of project – Solar PV when part of a whole-home retrofit
NB Power Net Metering
Enables customers to send solar energy back to the grid and earn credits.
Incentive – Bill credits for excess solar production

British Columbia Hydro Net Metering
BC Hydro’s net metering program allows customers to earn credits for the unused solar energy they feed into the grid.
Incentive – Bill credits at retail electricity rates
Eligibility – BC Hydro customers with renewable systems ≤100 kW
Type of Project – Grid-connected solar PV
SaskPower Net Metering
SaskPower offers net metering to help reduce energy bills for customers who generate solar electricity.
Incentive – Monthly credits for surplus generation
Eligibility – Residential and commercial customers with systems ≤100 kW
Type of Project – Grid-tied solar PV
Nova Scotia Power Net Metering
Allows residential and business customers to offset electricity costs by generating solar power.
Incentive – Credits for surplus electricity, carried over monthly
Eligibility – Systems ≤27 kW
Type of project – Solar PV for residential and small commercial use
Hydro-Québec Net Metering
This program enables customers to reduce their energy bills by generating renewable electricity and receiving kilowatt-hour (kWh) credits.
Incentive – Energy credits for excess production (not cashable)
Eligibility – Systems ≤50 kW
Type of project – Solar PV and other renewable energy sources
Alberta Micro-Generation Regulation
Micro-generators in Alberta can offset energy costs through net billing or energy credit systems.
Incentive – Credit or net billing for exported solar electricity
Eligibility – Systems under 5 MW
