In 2009, a large number of carpet tile specialists in Belleville, Ontario, lost their jobs when a carpet mill closed. Many of them had decades of experience and chances of another job in their field were very limited. Inspired to start a new carpet tile company, they combined their expertise in producing quality flooring and their ideals for social and environmental sustainability.
Keeping a product out of a waste or recycling stream for the longest time possible is one of the most significant factors in making a product truly sustainable. Belletile is made with long-lasting, market-proven vinyl backing technology that has been in use around the world for the last 30 years or more. Vinyl is a very long-lasting and durable material. The US Green Building Council issued a peer-reviewed report several years ago which determined that vinyl products were no worse than other plastic materials and in many cases, were more sustainable simply because they performed at such a high level over a long period of time. Vinyl carpet tile backing can be recycled back into the carpet backing at the end of its useful life, and Belletile is committed to taking back our products and recycling them.
